Hailed as the next big thing, Daily Planet were launched with much fanfare at Gospel Music Week back in April. So what's it all about? I guess the label are hoping that here's a band who could repeat the kind of success attained by Third Day. Certainly this is solid rock with a big singer to the fore and plenty of organic production elements to keep it interesting. They're nice guys too and if you're into this kind of thing, the album is strong enough to create a few waves of interest. However they're not the future of Christian rock'n'roll! At least not yet! I like the emotional ballad "Lost And Found" which is about as intense as this album gets. Not sure whether the choice of Reggie Hamm for producer enhances or detracts from the band's sound since he's better known for CCM pop albums rather than out and out rock. Sometimes I wonder whether the band are trying a little bit too hard on big tracks like "Tangled Web" and the title cut with its string section. By the time I get towards the end of the album I am beginning to lose interest, overwhelmed with the thought that I've heard a lot of this before. Good solid start but I am left feeling something is missing.
