Debut singles can be a mixed affair. Record companies don't often allow groups time to find their "particular sound" or develop a voice. This three-track EP by Manchester-based group Blindride is very much a work in progress and shows a group finding their musical feet. The trio of Kevin Wardman on vocals/guitar/piano, Jamie Moore on guitars and Paul Worth on drums are developing a good live following up in Manchester. The songwriting suggests that these guys spend a lot of time listening to Muse, Maroon 5 and other guitar-based indie acts. "Every Downward Stroke" is a good track with solid drumming and a punchy guitar riff, although the vocals could be stronger. "The Vitamin E" and "After All The Dead Fall" are softer, more radio friendly tracks, which could prick the ears of A&R guys. With the right producer, the latter song in particular could reach new and memorable heights.
