I really like this one from a Welsh singer/songwriter and only wish it was a full album. The songs on this four-track EP are decidedly catchy with appealing melodies and lyrics carrying thoughts that are both light and complex. There are so many singer/songwriters trying to make it and I think Goudie has something special. The pared back style reminded me of Melanie (she of "Look What They've Done to My Song" fame) - Goudie's voice is very much to the fore, giving the sense of an intimate and reflective performance. The songs are backed with acoustic guitar, with simple strumming or finger picking, and I think future releases would benefit from some subtle percussion and maybe some piano and lead acoustic guitar. but then remember Bob Dylan's early stuff. "Tomorrow" has a touching blend of past sadness and future hope - "With our backs to where we've been. now we're looking out ahead." "Jeannie" is a graceful song about romance and family love - "Jeanie, oh Jeanie/You made us your life/And surely the sun rises with you." "Home" is (not surprisingly) a song about the value of coming home while "The Boat" is a nice portrayal of a father/daughter relationship.
