How would you feel if eight people in your small town died in differing circumstances within a few weeks of each other? Bart Millard didn't want to "belittle some very personal moments by putting them into four or five minutes of music and trying to make it rhyme" but with "Homesick" he has written a song that acknowledges grief while praying for hope and the capacity to get through somehow. If our loved ones are with God, no wonder we're homesick. The DVD shows Millard on stage telling the story behind the song. It is emotional and deeply moving. MercyMe then perform the song acoustically. It's a song which is the richer for having the explanation with it, and the format works well. The accompanying book also tells the story and gives pertinent quotes on home as well as images and the lyrics. This could speak deeply and comfortingly to people who have lost loved ones. You might give it to someone recently bereaved, to help them on in their journey.
