When 2nd Chapter Of Acts started in the early 1970s, the Christian music scene was still in its infancy. The group, comprised of sisters Annie Herring and Nellie Greisen and brother Matthew Ward, released a number of albums and toured regularly until calling it a day in 1988. 1987's 'Far Away Places' was their last studio recording of original material and features plenty of the trio's trademark vocal harmonies. While the production would have been cutting edge when it was first released, it does sound pretty dated now. Having said that, Matthew Ward, who sing lead on six of the 10 songs here, is an expressively soulful vocalist while there is still plenty of life in songs like "Humble Yourself" and "Sing Over Me". The CD is very much a product of its time, but as mid-'80s MOR goes, nobody did it better than 2nd Chapter Of Acts.
