A Stonewall report claiming sexual abuse shelters would be unaffected by assisting men who identify as women has been fiercely attacked by a worker within the sector. The author described Stonewall’s document as “at best a disingenuous depiction” of the views of people working with abused women. At worst, she said, it could trick supporters and the public into believing that women who disagree with Stonewall “are wrongly misrepresenting female survivors of male violence”. | |

Almost half of parents have taken their child out of school to go on holiday, with many saying it is too expensive to go away during the summer break, a poll suggests. More than one in four (27%) mothers and fathers say they have taken their youngster out of lessons for a trip on more than one occasion, according to a survey commissioned by Co-op Insurance. Parents can be fined £60 if their child misses school without permission – including for holidays. | |

Dog attacks remain a “major concern” for postal workers after almost 2,300 incidents were reported last year, new figures show. The Royal Mail revealed that, although the total number of attacks fell by 8%, there were increases in several areas of the country. Postal workers bitten by dogs have been left with permanent and disabling injuries, with more than 44 attacks every week despite years of campaigns aimed at protecting employees. | |
