In 1998, al-Qa'ida is believed to have set up an umbrella organisation called the World Islamic Front for Jews and Crusaders, whose aim is to gain support for strikes against Jewish and Israeli targets. In March this year, an al-Qa'ida suicide bomber struck the oldest Jewish synagogue in Djerba, Tunisia, killing 21 people including 14 German tourists. The Mombasa attack left 15 dead and a charter plane full of people that escaped death by inches. Because the suicide bombers were late though, they did not hit their intended targets - two bus loads of newly arrived Israeli tourists - but a Kenyan dance troupe assembled in the hotel lobby to welcome them. |

The poll of 1,000 Brits, focusing on lifestyles, values and beliefs, was commissioned by Christian aid and development charity, World Vision. It paints a picture of Britain as a caring society that loves material goods and worries about crime. The survye findings suggest most people also care about key issues like world poverty, without actually feeling motivated to try to change things. |
