A survey in the US found more than 40 per cent of consumers who'd bought something at a retailer in the past three months believed their retailer could be doing a better job sending more relevant e-mail communications based on interests and past purchase behaviour. Another report said that 94 per cent of US adults who have received or subscribed to permission-based e-mail from a retailer have bought something from that company. | |

With the growth in popularity of farmers markets and organic produce, it's boom time. By April 2003, 3,991 British farms had become organic, a 16.5 per cent rise on the previous year. The farm gate value of UK produced organic food has also risen by 21.3 per cent from £149.5 million to £180.85 million. Ten years ago organic food was a niche market, with sales of £105 million. Last year, sales of organic food and drink topped £1.015 billion. Organic fruit and vegetable box deliveries have also grown in popularity. | |

A survey of 150 shoppers in Swansea and Cardiff, carried out by Tearfund in Wales, found that 78 per cent are willing to pay extra for clothing that is fairly traded. Only 29 per cent of those surveyed had bought fairly traded clothes before, but 84 per cent stated that they would buy fairly traded clothing ranges if they were available in their favourite high street stores. | |
