Veteran hip-hop team Grits leave Gotee to concentrate on 5E Entertainment

AMERICAN rap duo Grits have announced that they are leaving Gotee Records. The group have just released their album 'Redemption' on Gotee (EMI CMG in the UK). The group's rapper Coffee (Stacy Jones) told Christian Retailing magazine that he felt that the time had come for he and Bonefide (Teron Carter) to concentrate on their own label 5E Entertainment. "As we transition from being done with Gotee and doing our own label, we're going to be gatekeepers. It's not good business for me to stay over here (at Gotee) because I'll just dry up. I need to go somewhere where we can grow and function and the people under us can grow and function." Part of the new plan is to spend more time and money in mainstream areas, even though the duo doesn't plan to leave Christian music entirely. For them, it's a matter of survival and impacting the most listeners with their music. "You're not going to hear us totally switch from where we come from," Jones said. "Our art is a reflection of life. But you're going to see different marketing techniques and different strategies."
