An intriguing item from Mr Finch, a 22 year old keyboard player from Exmouth whose debut album of self-composed songs takes on board a wide range of influences from 70s synth 'pomp rock' to traces of fusion jazz and even Elton John. But the overall sound is what some smart Alec journo might call retro-progressive. Although The World's Way Of Caring' is Tim's album, all the vocals are handled by Keith Thompson (whose gritty 'Young Hearts' album is also reviewed this month) and his bluesy tone and laid back phrasing help give shape to Tim's songs which are intelligent, inventive and show considerable spiritual depth for a man only saved these three years. At times the production teeters a little into overkill (not usually a fault of an 8-track recording done on a budget of five pence) but the playing is excellent and if you're looking for a thinking man's synth rock to give your non-believing friend look no further.
