Thanks Paul for a concise comment on this affair. It shows how easy it is for human nature to get carried away by the moment, especially in like minded company, and cross a moral line.

Nice balanced thoughts Paul.
The whole episode does reflect on how moral standards have dropped over the years, 20 years ago swearing on the radio was both rare and looked down upon.

Very good article Paul.
I've listened to the whole thing on YouTube (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8ewKnuxd0ng).
What they did was wrong (in my opinion) but I forgive them. Taboos are a key element of humour, and it must be really hard to constantly "walk that tightrope".
I particularly liked your phrase "If we're not radical when we're young we have no heart, if we're not moderate when we're older we have no mind."

Paul has presented this article in a balanced way, enabling us to consider the whole issue, which I am sure will be debated for some time to come.
Prior to this event I have personally found Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross flagrant and often quite offensive. We refer to certain areas of journalism in the UK as "Gutter Press", it has been my opinion over the years at times Russell & Jonathan present us with "Gutter Entertainment. Call me a prude but I cannot watch or listen to them.
I agree with Paul there are issues here of forgiveness, grace and mercy to consider but the biggest issue is common sense right and wrong.
These guys have over-stepped the mark. However, the good that I am sure will come out of this is that it will force presenters to think before they speak in the future.
I am all for good comedy but not to the depths that Russell & Jonathan have taking it.

You are quite right, apologies have been offered and accepted and its time to move on for all concerned.
We do as society have to take responsibility for our part too because TV and radio only broadcast what we want to see and hear. So the more we want of God the less 'humour' of this style will be desired.

The opinions expressed in the Reader Comments are not necessarily those held by Cross Rhythms.
It would be a great pity if we did not retain, at least, some of 'the child' within us and the world would no doubt be a duller place. However, the schoolboy failings that these two seem to have re-kindlerd has, well and truly, landed them back in the headmatsters study 'big time'! This is only right and I hope the two quotes are sincere and not simply part of an adviser's disater mitigation package. What I do object to are comments from intelligent people(including the director general of the BBC) putting it down to two gifted professionals 'pushing the limits' of their abilities - half justifying the injury caused to an individual in the name of entertainment. What next?
Thanks for a great article.
