Comment: I think Simon Dillon has missed a great film! The Kings Speach was a gripping story, with a stunning contribution from Colin Firth. We have the benefit of hindsight as we watch this film and see an amoral and self centered King put to one side and forced to abdicate. (It will be interesting to know what the intercessors were being called to pray for at this time). More importantly here was a man of character who struggled desperatly to overcome his stammer called to lead the nation during the second world war. This is the King who called the nation to pray before the miracle of Dunkirk when the seas calmed and 400,000 were rescued from the French beaches. I am sure God has his hand on King George's life. But this is a very good film in its own right - a fascinating story of one man's struggle with a crippling disability and the love and determination of people around him. It is well made, with good uses of humour and an emotional finish as the King speaks to the nation at the beginning of world war two. I would strongly commend it.
