Lawrence Crump was born January 14, 1932. Son of John B. Crump and Rosy Salmon. Raised in Midlothian, Virginia at Corner Rock Road. Johnny Salmon was a folk fiddler. Larry and his brothers, Irwin, Curtis and Owen "Butch" all grew up playing guitar. Larry quit Midlothian High School to join the Navy in 1951. He was stationed in Massachusetts where he met Dorothy "Dotty" Manchester of New Bedford, MA. His children are Laurie, John, James, Virginia and Timothy. He attended Elam Baptist Church where he was inspired by Pastor El Hales to write his first gospel song.
