Article Title: The Lisbon Treaty: A Christian Response

Comment: I think you are overstating the potential for this treaty in asserting it could create so called pan European dictatorships and are in danger of sounding alarminst or even paranoic about its intent. One of the abiding values of the European project has been to promote democracy, justice and human rights across Europe - requiring candidate countries to adopt measures to promote these values in their constitutional arrangements before they can join the European Union. You have also misunderstood the constitutional position regarding the making of of treaties and how this interfaces with our own democracy and this is affecting your analysis. Lisbon does not remove powers from Westminster but rather enhances the democratic credentials of the European Parliament. Sovereignty for the UK remains absolutely (as it always has) with the UK Parliament. Finally your assertion that the movement of people across the union is a bad thing is a fairly typical right wing view - that the movement of capital is OK but not labour - people have always moved to work and better themselves - a Godly principle - are you against this?
