Why Do Christian Ministers Fail?

How could no-one have found out for two years? Have we no discernment at all? That would seem to be a sign of something very, very wrong within the church. We turn again to the scriptures, and see calls for us to have wisdom and discernment in deciding which way to go, what path to follow. We read “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1) We read also from Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians him mentioning it twice. He first says it is a spiritual gift “to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues” (1 Cor 13:10 – interestingly it is right before speaking in tongues, which many Pentecostals have vigorously defended, but none of them have cared to read the five words just before that?) He also sets out guidelines in the 14th chapter on how prophesy should occur – “Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.” (1 Cor 14:29) Yet somehow this did not come to pass into that situation. And I read that everyone was deceived, right down to his congregation, his mentors, his parents, even his very wife. And I do not wish to rub salt in the wound, but where is the discernment in this case? Some have written excusing it, saying “no-one knew that the cancer was a lie, so he must have hid it well” but that is completely missing the point!
