Comment: I don't ever remember hearing much about these guys, hence, i know nothing about them other than the 8 beautifully crafted songs on their offering "Sci-Fi Canon Blue(s)". Their influences seem to be all over the place, ranging from radiohead, the Beatles, the big band era, ben folds five, Dear Ephesus, and anything in between. They even go so far as to throw a beautiful Christmas song in the mix. "The Ice Storm" evokes a wonderful Christmas-y feeling that can make even a humbugging-scrooge like me wish for Christmas amidst an Oklahoma 103 degree summer day. This song can stand alone, even if it had been the only good song on the disc (which it's not) All the songs on Sci-Fi Canon Blue(s) are well written and pulled straight from the heart. If i could give one word to describe the album, I would say "Texture". They weave a rich tapestry of Finger picked guitars, mellow horns that make you long for the good ol' days, Rufus Wainwright-esque vocals, preplex percussion, driving rock guitars (with just the right amount of distortion), Annie will definitely go down in my book as one of the most under-rated and unappreciated bands of the past 10 years. Their treasure, i'm sure, awaits in Heaven.
