Steve, what you have said is spot on. If we develop a system where most JP's will make a rational decision but a Christian JP will make a different decision based on their faith, then you end up with all cases being decided on whether or not you are lucky/unlucky enough to get a Christian JP on the day. With respect, saying that "if having homosexual parents was beneficial to a child's spiritual health then God would not have designed marriage to be between a man and his wife" is llike saying "if God had wanted man to fly he would have given him wings". There is no reason to stop two loving people, gay or otherwise, from adopting a child and raising them to be a healthy young person, which gay couples are capable of. I know quite a few homosexual people that would make absolutely fantastic adoptive parents and would bring up a child to be a confident, happy young person with a world of opportunities availible to them. I am a commited Christian and I believe that homosexual sex is sinful, but we all sin; "Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand." (Romans 14:4) The issue should be are these two people in a position to raise this child in a loving, caring manner and to keep this child as safe from harm as can reasonably be expected of them. If the answer is yes, then the child is better of with these people than in the care system, which (despite the very best efforts of the staff) cannot love the child like two adoptive parents. The idea that being raised by two gay people is harmful to a child is as absurd and offensive and saying that being gay is contageous. It is clear that Andrew McClintock has greatly contributed to the community as a JP and I hope he finds another way to serve the community.
