Down At The Grindhouse

Comment:
I'm not a huge fan of Tarantino or Rodriguez, but no doubt I will see Grindhouse out of curiosity. I don't have a problem with horror films per se, but I think most audiences find excessive gore unscary. Depending on how desensitised one is, it is either repulsive or hilariously funny, but not scary. The only time high levels of gore ought to be employed are in war films (where I would actually argue its irresponsible to show excessive restraint). Truly scary films generally rely on the imagination. A good horror film may have one extremely gruesome moment to underscore the danger but keep the majority of the deaths offscreen - for example Alien. I find the best horror films do not rely on excessive gore - for example The Sixth Sense, The Changeling, Ring (the Japenese version, not the remake).
