Some of Scotland's finest singer/songwriters have teamed up to produce a nine track album of Christmas songs to accompany a fundraising tour of churches in aid of Christian charity Tearfund. Yvonne Lyon's upbeat Celtic take on "Joy To The World" - featuring a virtuoso fiddle turn from Seonaid Aitken - kicks proceedings off with gusto before Allan McKinlay and Steph Macleod offer up fine versions of old carols such as "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "Silent Night" respectively. Keen to mix the old with the new, McKinlay's worshipful "Follow The Star" offers something stylistically different from the usual festive fare whilst Lyon's title track (co-penned with singer/songwriter husband David) encourages the listener to be a positive force this Christmas. Lyon's "I Believe In Christmas" and "Dear December" - lifted from the singer's exemplary 2012 Christmas single - are the icing on the cake of this accomplished and worthy release whilst her vocals on the haunting "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" are simply breathtaking.
