Reviewed by Oscar Hyde The United Pursuit collective arose in Knoxville, Tennessee eight years ago and has been loosely swelling outwards in love and community ever since. On this particular outing, Will Reagan takes the helm. The band's mixing is organic, almost live, though with a particular emphasis on trebles; there's an overwhelming sense of fragility, compounded by Reagan's high, thin voice (which is not at all a bad thing; it complements the music perfectly). The individual tracks, however, mostly blend together. They're exceptionally pleasant and the lyrics are heartfelt (even well-thought-out enough to have their individual themes listed on the back cover), but much of the time the songs aren't memorable, with some notable exceptions. "Colorful" is a catchy, danceable paean to God's creativity and restorative power in salvation (an often-overlooked aspect of God's personality!), while "Endless Years" and "Through And Through" form (impressively) a call-and-response song pair between God and God's people, the former full of joyously busy strings, the latter a gorgeously sparse and awestruck meditation resounding through time and space. Most notable of all, though, is, of course, "Set A Fire", a worship anthem that's already a bona fide classic. The inclusion of this track alone adds one square to the rating. The general atmosphere of the disc is lovely enough that it easily gains a recommendation.

United Pursuit Band – a musical collective bound together by friendship, united in vision, and living together in community. United Pursuit Band defies today’s worship genre norms, always reaching for more. Their sound is diverse as their members, ranging from soaring worship anthems to powerful ballads, mixed in with folk influences and even a bit of gospel soul.
What started as a dream, now has found its expression in a destiny-driven group of friends spanning this nation. Band member Nathan Fray states their purpose clearly: “Our mission is to create a culture of worship and of hosting God’s presence, all centred around community living. It’s in this place of God’s life-giving presence that our songs are born and we pray will stir the heart of a generation to love Jesus and pursue Him with everything. This is our united pursuit.” |
