As has already been noted in the pages of this journal, black choir albums are often much of a muchness, with the controlled hysteria and call-and-response pyrotechnics often becoming as formulaic as any MOR praise and worship series. But this berobed bunch of Washington saints keep the excitement high enough to enable the listener to ignore feelings of deja vu in style and lyrics. The choir's leader, producer and sometimes composer Troy E Wright is clearly a name to watch in the gospel stakes while a couple of the lead singers showcased here have blisteringly soulful voices good enough to warrant solo albums.
