I’ve got a friend who plays incessantly P.O.D.’s ‘Snuff The Punk’ and is convinced his San Diego heroes have wimped out in their pursuit of melodic rock paydirt. I’ll have to play him the first three cuts on this set from a new (to me) Australian band - explosive, gutsy, exciting rapcore, beautifully tight rhythms, screamed in-your-face exhortations to “Remember The Creator” and make-your-ears-bleed guitars. But then the album veers off somewhere else completely with Stephanie Saunders, the keyboards player in the band, stepping in to the mic and delivering an ethereal vocal with not a guitar or drums in earshot. Soon though it’s back to the rock’n’roll mayhem interspersed with three experimental Interludes and finished off, on track 15, with a tasty remix. Very fine production by (I read from the sleeve) “Mike G from Blimp Records.” I read on the band’s website that their from Queensland and have been going since early 2001. I’ve got a gut feeling I’ll be emailing them soon to tell them their “Like This”, surely one of the heaviest examples of full-on worship ever committed to disc, has made it to the Cross Rhythms Rock & Hard Place playlist. If you’re an adventurous type investigate this hugely talented Australian foursome.
