The subject of this review was first released in VHS in 1995 as the fourth in the series, re-released on DVD in 2002, and is a Veggie-ized version of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and the fiery furnace. Rack, Shack and Benny find themselves working in Mr Nezzer's chocolate bunny factory. Through a course of events they are asked to compromise their beliefs, which they refuse to do with dire consequences. Complete with the proverbial happy ending (a bit sugary in this Veggie-version), the purpose of the video is to help children (aged three and up) learn how to resist peer pressure and stand up for what they believe in. I don't think that the re-telling of the Biblical story with all-talking (and occasionally singing) vegetables does this. Interspersed with silly songs to up the fun factor, the Veggie Tales series was seen as being innovative and imaginative in the 1990s. What children in the modern day think is another question. On asking my 17-year-old daughter what she recalled from watching them, she mainly remembered the silly songs. Nevertheless, with added features like a new improved "Bunny Song" and behind-the-scenes stuff this DVD is a entertaining children's viewing.
