What is exciting about this album is that it is speaking into a very specific situation, ie, what God is doing in Liverpool. This is perhaps best highlighted in the introductory song from Shane Beales, "Faith Song". The lyric in this song states, "in Liverpool your Spirit rule." Okay, so this means some of the songs won't work in your own church, but so what? There are enough other songs out there. This album follows in the true tradition of the Psalms, by speaking into people's real experiences and enabling them to meet God in those instances. There's a great variety too. Alistair Mackenzie's "Resonate" reminds me of U2 in their 'Unforgettable Fire' days whereas "Rock Of Ages" is a more full on gospel type number. The Oasis-style hooks of "Walking With Angels" from Ian Finch (otherwise known as Finchley) are worthy of a mention too. Maybe this album isn't the slickest worship compilation in the world - there is an earthy, rough and ready feel about it - but I'm glad it isn't. Instead, it's honest, it's real and it's exciting and these things are far more important.
