Even a three-disc pack of 50 tracks can only give us a selection of favourites from the vast hymnody repertoire but this is a satisfying box set with a strap line of "what the world's churches are singing today." 'The World's Favourite Hymns' gives a broad overview of traditional and modern hymns and a variety of presentations, from grand orchestra to rock band to folk to MOR. Something for everyone, really, and all very professionally done. It makes a rip-roaring start with Paul Baloche's "How Great Thou Art" with the band playing to a live audience and plenty of excitement. Other band versions I enjoyed are John Barbour's "Joyful, Joyful" and the folky "O For A Thousand Tongues" from the David Crowder Band. Modern hymns include "Cornerstone" and Darlene Zschech's "Shout To The Lord" - two great songs that merit their huge popularity. Stuart Townend's "The Power Of The Cross" deserves to be better known and I liked Chris McClarney's new version of "Blessed Assurance". These are all well-respected worship leaders and it's good to see our rich hymn heritage being celebrated.

The World's Favourite Hymns, featuring 50 of the best-loved hymns sung the world over, is the latest release from Integrity Music's best-selling World's Favourite series. Containing hymns that cross the nations and span the generations, this three-disc collection showcases what the worlds churches are singing today including modern classics such as In Christ Alone, How Great Thou Art, and Before the Throne of God Above. "After the Bible, the next most valuable book for the Christian is a good hymnal. Let any young Christian spend a year prayerfully meditating on the hymns of Watts and Wesley alone, and he will become a fine theologian. Then let him read a balanced diet of the Puritans and the Christian mystics. The results will be more wonderful than he could have dreamed." A. W. Tozer
