Hopefully you've read on the Cross Rhythms website our recent feature about this groundbreaking series which gives grassroots worship songwriters the chance to have their songs professionally recorded with a producer, musicians and, if necessary, a session singer. I respectfully suggest that using the latter for the opener Steven Barr's "God Breakthrough" might have been a good idea as Steven's thin voice doesn't really seem up to the job. But things soon pick up with Sarah Clay offering an excellent vocal on her composition "So In Love With You Jesus" while Andy Bromley adds his smooth tones to Ian Head's "Great God Of Power And Holiness (Show Your Ways)". For me the standouts are Graeme Clark's Redman-esque "You Are High", though it could be argued that Mr Clark is no longer an unknown figure in worship music, and Rachel Macdonald, whose wistfully tender "Jesus Is The Name" is a delight. But I'm sure there'll be other songs to connect with those adventurous enough to go beyond the obvious sources of new worship material and send off for this fascinating exploration of the grassroots.

as the wife of steven barr who wrote god breakthru i would encourage tony cummings to listen to the song and what it is about. it is about god breaking thru barriers and breaking down walls within todays church i am pleased to say the song was used for the point of contact charity video and one persons views are not everyones views as those who we have heard from agree the songs words are blessed and i was disapointed that tony's only coments were on the singer not the song . if churches had to rely on good singers for the spirit to flow or move there would be a whole lot of dead churches out there but when we rely on songwriters that truely here from god and sing songs from a place of love and devotion to god i have to say our church is moving and blessed with the men and women of god that we have including steven. it would have been better to review all of the song not just the singer. it is afterall a an album full of wonderfull words and feelings about the lord jesus christ it is a powerful album and it is about time we helped god breakthru some walls and some ideas in the church today that you are only welcome if you are a good sing or a great worker christ loves all people and accepts every type of praise offered to him if god created the voices we sing, speak or pass opinion with surely we have a right to be heard.
