Singer/songwriter and producer Mark Heard may have died in 1992 but his legacy lives on. This double CD of 34 songs performed by 34 artists, released in 1996, was a timely reminder of the brilliant poetry, observation and cultural perception Mark employed in his songs. The tribute album 'Strong Hand Of Love' was released back in 1994 as a single CD (though the cassette version had some different tracks). This retitled and expanded version included everyone who wished to pay tribute to Mark's talents. Amongst the highlights are an amazing version of "Strong Hand Of Love" from Bruce Cockburn, Buddy and Julie Miller's moving rendition of the title song and powerful contributions from the likes of Tonio K, Ashley Cleveland, Rich Mullins, Vigilantes Of Love, Chagall Guevara, Pat Terry and Phil Keaggy. One of the most bizarre contributions has to be Olivia Newton John's version of "Big And Strong" (yep, you read that correctly!). Actually it's pretty good! Personal favourites are Kevin Max doing "Lonely Moon" - always liked that song - and Glenn Kaiser presenting a bluesy "Threw It Away". And it was a pleasure to hear something from Daniel Amos who were probably excluded from the original 'Strong Hand Of Love' release because they chose to also record the title song along with Bruce Cockburn. This expansive double CD allows both versions of the song to be included. 'Orphans Of God' keeps the flame of Mark Heard's music burning bright.
