Over the years there have been a number of compilations that claim to offer the listener a taste of worship music from other countries, the Vineyard movement, for example, have offerings from countries such as Turkey and South Africa. Nine times out of 10 though the most that these albums offer are a collection of British or American worship songs sung with an accent! This album is, however, different, and refreshingly so. There are 16 songs drawn from churches (mainly Methodist) around the world, each one sung in the native tongue and in the native style. There are songs from countries as far flung as Sweden, Panama, Taiwan and Zimbabwe, each one expressing the goodness and praise of the one true God of all nations. The in-lay helpfully gives an insight into the language, culture and meaning of each song, which underlines what a diverse yet unifying faith Christians around the world share. Not all the styles may appeal to us in the west but this is a real celebration of God and highlights the importance of music in transcending cross cultural barriers.
