I haven't seen the docudrama Four Blood Moons neither have I read the bestselling book by megachurch preacher John Hagee on which the film is based. But as it is my firm belief that film soundtrack albums need to stand up musically in their own right when isolated from the visuals and dialogue of any film, I don't think my ignorance of film and book is relevant. As it turns out, 'Four Blood Moons Soundtrack' is a rather good collection of contemporary Christian pop. There are a number of well-known names here and though some might object that Mat Kearney's "Sooner Or Later" or the infectious "In Wonder" by the Peter Furler-era Newsboys are available on other CDs, they still sound good to these ears plus the fact that one of the film's original recordings "Walk Through The Fire" by Georgia's Consumed By Fire is a top rate pop rock anthem. There are other good things on the album. V.Rose, on the dramatic "In Spite Of All", sounds much better than some of the teen pop she has recorded recently while "Weep No More" by country music's Canton Junction might be a bit melodramatic for some tastes but is impressively produced. I've no idea who the singers Sandy Parker, Kela Alvarado, Richard Sanchez and Justin Linge are - my guess is that they were plucked from Rev Hagee's Cornerstone Church worship team - but they all sing well and songs and production are okay as well. So if you're looking for a CCM compilation which isn't simply promoting new releases this set could be for you.
