LA's Dream Records have built up a very impressive roster of artists and letting them loose on Yuletide songs has now become a corporate tradition. Vol 4 is in many ways Dream Christmas' best yet. A real standout is "Joy" by Life.Church's Switch which is every bit as good as their big hit "Symphony", while Joel Vaughn has one of the best pop voices in Christendom and his pop production savvy ensures that "God With Us" is another play-again item. Almost as good are HillaryJane's "Emmanuel" and Lifepoint Worship's "Come And Adore". Obviously compilations like this one have a pretty varied musical approach and with styles ranging from anthemic worship to snappy electro pop it is unlikely that every track will connect with the listener. For me the one major disappointment is We Are Leo's "Dancing In A Snow Globe" but then I don't like Santa songs and the whole roasting chestnuts/family fun schlock particularly when songwriters have the chance, as on a Christmas album, to write about the most momentous thing in human history - the incarnation. But getting back to this collection, if you want a well-produced set of Christmas songs to accompany your celebrations this year, 'Dream Christmas Vol 4' is a mini-album worth searching out.
