Let's be honest. We've all walked into our local Christian bookstore at some point or other and heard this before, yes? Richard Clayderman and Hank Marvin soundalikes plinking and plonking their way through hymns ancient and modern (without the modern) or the back catalogue of Graham Kendrick/Chris Bowater. I'm not opposed to old songs (lyrically many have a vast amount to offer compared to their modern counter parts) nor to people doing instrumental albums. But it seems to me that putting the two together always seems to lead to the same dire result. Don't get me wrong, there are some exceptions in this collection - "Amazing Grace" is a rich orchestral arrangement that fully does justice to the song - and maybe this could have been a quite passable single CD collection. However given this is a three CD set what we actually get is more filler than Joan Collins' make up cabinet.
