Vangel is on old Scots name for Gospel and it is also utilised by Jimmy Scott, who has been performing country gospel with various line ups since the 1960s, and Ian Walker, who is a veteran of folk clubs and festivals and has recorded several albums with Cumbria's Fellside Records. Together they take a gently engaging country sound with pleasant acoustic picking on a set of largely originals. With only bassist/guitarist Lain Jamieson to help them out, the effect palls slightly over 13 tracks but for an older generation their sincerity and musicianship will find something appealing here.
