Husband and wife (I think) team John and Julie Turnbull could at first glance be yet another married couple music duo, but this self-penned album has quite a kick to it. Julie's breathy yet attractive vocal, married (ha!) to some fine guitar licks from John make this an enjoyable pop experience. "Stop Time" contains a particularly tasty example of John's guitar fare while Julie soars effortlessly above it all. Out Of The Grey with guts. Like it. The following review appeared in CR74:There are quite a few husband and wife teams in American Christian pop and now you can add to the list indie artists John and Julie Turnbull. I met this couple whilst I was wandering around Nashville and they reminded me of Scott and Christine Dente, possibly because John mainly plays guitar and Julie sings. Their acoustic-driven pop is laden with hooky melodies that are delivered mainly through Julie's perfect pop voice. Lyrically this is what Americans are calling "vertical" which seems to mean worshipful without actually being a worship album. The result is a pleasant experience without being earth shatteringly original. Standouts for me are "Holy" and the edgier "All That I Want", the latter featuring more of a vocal contribution from John. It's worth checking out their website www.turnbullmusic.com for more info.
