It doesn't sound like it would work - a father and son from Doncaster with Dad (Keith Hamilton) handling lead vocals and son Chris playing all the guitars, bass, keys and programming. But such is the quality of Keith's clear-toned voice (which sounds wistful and, er, young), the impressive dexterity of Chris' nimble-fingered playing and arrangements and strong melodies that this turns out to be one of the most impressive independent debuts I've heard. "Oh Jesus" with its delicate harmonies is almost a Byrds throwback while the worship opener "I Will Love You All My Life" and the country-tinged bluesy chugger "It Was You" both work well. The real wrench in the programming department is "Hold My Hand" where rapper Phil Hamilton makes a startling guest appearance. But despite the unlikely combination of ranting MC, wistful jangly pop bits and hard rock workout, somehow that seems to work too. Throughout the production/engineering by John Spence is top rate. A hugely impressive entrance into the music scene, and that's the truth.
