Remember the Dan Reed Network? Well this ain't a million miles from that, which is a good thing, believe me. Melodic funk-rock with attitude, the stall is set out in style with opener "Cold Day", but Trump Dawgs are no one-trick pony. "Whisper" is radio-friendly rock, instrumental "Ching-a-Ching" tips a hat to Fishbone, while "New Song #2" could almost be Smooth's older brother. There isn't nearly enough funk-rock around, but this is one example to cherish. Top marks (well, nearly!) for a self-produced masterpiece.

Also reviewed in CR79:
I first met Kenny Carter when he was in the much loved American band Waterdeep which is why he pressed a copy of this into my hand when I last saw him. Always a talented musician with a feel for the groove, this new band combines elements of rock, rap, soul and funk to create a band unafraid to jam and experiment. The result is difficult to easily categorise and puts in a bid for "real" music. "The Last Straw" and "5:11" are the kind of stripped down sounds that suit Prince but it's the diversity from the opening rocker "Cold Day" through to the gentler closing "Lullaby" that really impresses. For those who crave good old fashioned musicians playing instruments and jamming, this more than cuts it.
