Tracy Lawrence (he's a bloke!) is a mainstream country hitmaker and this gospel set is a bold venture as all the 10 tracks are new, fresh sounding and not a rehash of songs that are safe and familiar. Tracy has a strong singing voice and the backings are good modern country style. I particularly enjoyed "The Book You Never Read", "Somebody Who Would Die For You" and the closing track "Say A Prayer". However, what makes this album stand out is the stunning title track of which the lyrics are quite unlike anything I have ever heard! 'The Rock' in question is a Southern church in Savanna, Georgia. And the song portrays how it has stood the test of times through the ups and downs of life and carried the Gospel through to the present day. I always think the best recommendation for a review album is whether or not you would buy it yourself and I certainly intend to add this to my collection. Recommended for anyone who likes good, strong, modern country music.
