As most readers will know, Soul Survivor is an annual youth gathering in the UK which sees thousands of young people coming together to worship Jesus, or to be introduced to him for the first time. Momentum is a camp for the 20s and 30s age group. This album is an 11 track recording that captures moments of live worship from their 2015 summer camps. Featuring world renowned worship leaders such as Beth Croft, Tim Hughes and Rend Collective as well as the lesser known Tom Smith, 'Love Takes Over' is bound to make you sit up and take notice. If you are familiar with the work of the featured artists, this album will contain no surprises as many of the songs are taken from their latest solo releases. However, as a youth album, the project will take you to the cutting edge of the sound of sung worship in the Western Church right now. Pushing more and more into the realms of EDM, "Dynamite" in particular has a big fat thumping beat with a screaming synth line which would not sound out of place in a London night club. The title track continues along the dance music theme and brings more technical wizardry to the sonic landscape. Things mellow down by the time you reach "Rule In My Heart" which is sensitively sung by Beth Croft and is a tender, reflective track that invites surrender and submission to an all-powerful and ever-loving God. Unfortunately there are some periods where there is a spoken word sound-bite or moment of encouragement from the worship leader which works well in a live setting, just not so well on a recording. But, on the whole, as an album aimed at the youth market 'Love Takes Over' is recommended.
