Film soundtrack albums have little chance of connecting with the listener away from the silver screen. This one does better than most and at times almost makes it as ambient music. Tom Howard weaves the strains of "Amazing Grace" through his theme. Some of the music has oriental undercurrents, not surprising as 'Bamboo In Winter' tells the story of underground Christianity in contemporary China.
