Washington-based singer/songwriter Todd describes this 2011 mini-album as a "musical journey through the Christmas story" and is indeed a collection of songs inspired by the Gospel reports of the incarnation. "The Saviour Is Born" is a folk rock romp with a catchy vocal lead chorus based on the angels' declaration while "Prepare The Way" is a more gentle ballad covering Zachariah and the birth of John the Baptist. There is even some straight '70s rock in "Looking For Messiah" and a honkytonk piano and soaring sax in the rendition of the traditional "Angles We Have Heard On High". While the variation of style keeps the album interesting and the production and arrangements are fine, Todd's slightly nasal vocals do let the side down a bit and the album as a whole seems to be missing that edge that would make it stand out from the crowd.
