Following on from the highly reputed debut, 'The Great Awakening', this next chapter introduces the mission to "kill sin". Grounded in limitless references to Scripture and classic sermons, Timothy Brindle raps clever and witty lyrics over rolling bass lines and tough drums. The album comes with copious sleevenotes, providing the listener with a mini-Bible study for each track, which is truly a remarkable insight into the strength of the content. A host of experienced DJs produce, with well-chosen samples and guest spots, notably Kevin Arther slapping superb bass licks. Underground legend R-Swift and Shai Linne guest on standout battle track between good and evil, with Brindle and Shai representing God and sin respectively. This is an intelligent album sure to shake awake complacency while providing streetwise content both musically and verbally. Additional note: While writing this review, it came to light that Timothy Brindle has written a public statement that he will be stepping back from the Christian hip-hop scene, due to an ongoing pattern of sin which has proven to be destructive to both himself and his family. Please try to take this in slowly, to save me having to repeat myself; IMHO this is the best Christian hip hop album I have ever heard... It's truly STUNNING!
Timothy Brindle has a knack of laying himself bare while exposing sin, and many of the ways it gets into our lives. Don't expect much of the old school 'big-up-your-chest' type lyrics here, as he clearly puts himself down as a sinner in need of God's grace, and everyone else too. That said, the track 'Battle' is highly amusing (and truthful), and is done in a live style reminiscient of Eminem in '8 Mile'. Basically, it's a lyrical MC battle between the Christian and Sin... Awesome!
Timothy Brindle's lyrics are as deep as the roots on an Oak tree, as his heart expresses his desire to 'kill sin' in his life.
If you can listen to this CD without getting convicted in some way, you must be sinless.
