Down the years the live albums from Britain's most popular youth event have been guaranteed Christian bookshop best sellers though once or twice in recent times CR reviewers have noted that the projects have become a tad formulaic. So I am pleased to report that the album resulting from the 2010 celebrations is one of the best ever. Bringing in some new young worship leaders like Tom Field, Jamie Rodwell and Tom Lockley gives a new lease of life to the proceedings while Tim Hughes (recorded at Soul Survivor's sister event Momentum) connects with his new songs "Never Stop Singing" and "All Glory". Where in previous years the audience/congregation has been under-recorded here they are loud enough to add atmosphere without drowning out anything. There are some good new songs here, Tom Field's "Praise Overflows", Sam Parker's "Grace" and Tim Hughes' and Martin Smith's "Holding Nothing Back" (sung here with passion by Beth Croft) all sound like they could connect with the international Church. The accompanying band are top rate with Verra Cruz's Marc James' soaring guitar a particular highlight, as are the violin interjections from Rebecca McVeigh. Even if you didn't get to Soul Survivor last year, this set still works as powerful modern worship.
