From right under my feet here in Stoke-on-Trent, a rock band, Petalhead, has been making a bit of a name for itself on the club scene. Think Brit rock ala Muse but with female vocals. They should have a CD out by the end of the year. But until then we have this little side project by the brains (Tim Davies) and voice (Becky Brown) behind the band. "Fixing My Wings" is a beautiful three-track single that is both soothing and contemplative, its lyrics are worshipful and in awe of our Lord. Becky's voice is young, fresh and beautiful. It is this voice that helps Petalhead stand out from the crowd and works equally well alongside the solitary acoustic guitar. Tim's guitar work is simple yet deeply effective and his songwriting demonstrates a wisdom beyond his years. "One voice and one guitar" is a well-trodden path, and may well simply remain a side project aside from the main band. But all the same, this is not a wasted effort.
