Professor of psychology and Christian music artist are not perhaps the most likely of companions on one's CV, but Warren Throckmorton manages to combine them. Based at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, Warren is also heavily involved in counselling, and his self-penned debut of 14 songs draws on his experiences with (according to the publicity) the lyrics conveying a seasoned perspective on struggles about life and faith. All okay so far, but then the blurb starts comparing Mr Throckmorton's songs with material by Neil Young, Huey Lewis, Michael Card, ZZ Top and Fleetwood Mac. In the words of Randy Stonehill, I've got news for ya - don't you believe it! The style of the songs may have echoes of those bands and singers, there might even be some similarity vocally, but the songs themselves come nowhere near. The best singer/songwriters make it all seem so effortless - listen to Mr Card's 'Life Trilogy' and you'll see what I mean. This collection of stuff sounds like hard work and doesn't grab the attention at all. Absolutely average.

I have heard Throckmorton in concert and own the disc. A
couple of the songs are average (River True, He is Calling)
but most of the tracks are quite involved, and the band
brings the elements together quite well. I really like Home
Beyond the Sky, Near the Son and Wait for You.
