Finally, a debut, full length album from the UK's most innovative reggae/dancehall artist. Having already released some tracks onto compilations and as singles, Adrian Burke, aka The Witness, has been preparing these songs for some time. With Steve Clarke at the producing helm (Beenie Man, Sizzla and Elephant Man) the quality of the music is up there with the best of them. The Witness drops his distinctive tones over a heady concoction of styles, rapping about the state of the Church one moment and sex within marriage the next. At first listen the style and delivery may scare the uninitiated. But, get past the cheesy intro and you have a unique sound, oozing class and in tune with today's culture. The Witness certainly keeps the listener on their toes, throwing in all sorts of "old school" gospel references, which I'm not sure really work. There is a high dose of humour, some smooth R&B numbers and a well-picked selection of guest emcees. Certainly not for everyone, but perfect for fans of this genre. An artist to keep an eye on, with a powerful message and ministry.
