One of my favourite albums of the new millennium was from the brother/sister trio Souljahz. The Californian group finally return with a follow up but this time out they're just brother and sister duo Rachael and Je'kob Washington and have changed their name to The Washington Projects. What hasn't changed is their thoroughly contemporary mix of hip-hop, pop, rock and R&B so that these 15 songs may have been a long time coming but they were well worth the wait. The fusion of rap and sung vocals and soulful hip-hop grooves is immediately established on the opening cut "Move". This catchy song is quickly followed up by another gem "Take It To The Streets" and it's clear that these guys have managed to combine songs that go deep and have plenty to say with music that is ear catching and magnificently put together. It isn't often that you get a group whose music doesn't immediately make you think of someone else but The Washington Projects manage to create original sounding songs and marry them to lyrics that are thought provoking and inspiring. Highlights for me include the irrepressibly catchy "Zephyr Wings" and the fabulous "Time". They aren't scared to hit a few issues along the way and package up their faith in a way that makes an impact beyond the walls of the Church. Original, cleverly produced, well written and excellently performed, this creative album has got to be an early contender for album of the year!

I first heard them when I saw their music video for "your are my world" on the Gospel Music Channel and they are such a breath of clean, fresh air. It's awesome to be able to pump the volume loud to music with the same bass grinding as mainstream music, except with a different message; a message of hope......

I was just introduced to these guys at the Dare 2 Sahre Conference in Lincoln Nebraska. I love them! They have such a catchy sound. The first song "Move" gets you to do just that! It's clean and hip at the same time. He has a style that attracts the crowd and she is classy and beautiful modeling modesty and purity while being fashionable. I would recommend them to anyone who likes to get their groove on but doesn't like the mainstream message that comes with most hip hop music. I see them really going places and wish them the best!
