Reviewed by Trevor Kirk "The Source" has only been around as a concept for a couple of years, yet already we're getting re-packaging. Someone at Alliance has obviously thought that, with the explosion of Aussie praise music, a collection of the best would be a good idea. If I hadn't already heard a lot of the original cuts of these songs, all of which are products of Hillsongs and Geoff Bullock, I might have agreed. But these are studio recordings, and despite the best efforts of all concerned - amongst those on the cast-list are Sir Cliff-soundalike Simon Goodall, Sarah Lacy of Eden's Bridge, David Lyle Morris, Su Reeves-Bennett (ex-Heartbeat), Nanette Welmans, the rest of Eden's Bridge, including Teryl Bryant, loads of other good musos and the production skills of Chris Nortom - they're no match for the originals; when you've heard, as I have, Darlene belting out 'Touching Heaven, Changing Earth', the version here sounds positively wimpy by comparison. However, like the rest of The Source CDs, this is just a teaching aid, so if all you want to do is learn songs, this will do nicely. If you want to experience the real Hillsongs atmosphere, go get the live albums.
