The Source series of albums have been generally regarded by us reviewers as pretty uninspiring as performances; the idea is to use them as companions to the songbook, and as teaching aids to learn the songs. So what are we to make of these two offerings in the series, because instead of dull-as-ditchwater arrangements, we get Dave Bankhead as arranger and producer, with such Celtic luminaries as Troy Donockley, Joanne Hogg, and David Bird and Sarah Lacy of Eden's Bridge lending their various talents. The upshot of this is that, on Volume 1 there's a stunning version of David Ruis' "We Will Dance" with lead vocals by Joanne; Troy's whistle leads into Sarah's superb rendition of Bryn and Sally Haworth's "What Kind Of Love Is This"; and "Break Dividing Walls", "Lion Of Judah", "How Deep The Father's Love", and "My Jesus I Love Thee", are all beautifully played and sung.
