The Rocket Summer, from Dallas/Fort Worth, otherwise known as Bryce Avery, has been a fixture of the mainstream US scene since he emerged age 17 in 2000, and after 10 years of recording and gigging was enjoying a number one album Stateside. But in recent years he's been an independent and this single, the first from his forthcoming album 'Sweet Showers', is a powerful mid-tempo song with a gutsy vocal and an arrangement which, with its nagging synth figure, has a touch of Cocteau Twins. As is Avery's way with lyrics, they could apply to God ("Feel like you're shattering everything/But you don't know how it's happening/I just feel I'm shattering everything/But I got you, I got you."). Whatever, this is powerful modern rock from a serious US songsmith.
