Despite a moniker suggesting a band, The Rocket Summer is solo act Bryce Avary. Touring with bands such as Relient K, Mae and Copeland, this Texan is making waves in the USA. Bryce's creation of clever pop-driven songs through a distinctive piano sound makes for an album full of hits. The record kicks off with a short opening "Move To The Other Side Of The Block" explaining how people rush around trying to see others' faults and judging their mistakes. It moves smoothly into "I Was So Alone" and then "Around The Clock". These songs set the pace for the rest of album, cramme full of witty, sharp lyrics and upbeat pop rock sounds. Thankfully, Avary has more to sing about than falling in or out of love. He has successfully created a balance between light-hearted catchy sounds with in depth lyrics such as "Tell Me Something Good" which questions being real and wanting answers about life. Maturity and quirkiness are all found on this record. This album is simply addictive. Once you hear it, you won't be able to compare it to anything else on the market. Avary easily stands out among the masses creating music that is immediate, eccentric and yet rooted in catchy pop. It's brilliant!
