The American Golly Gee specialist rockabilly label continues to find a smattering of Christian rockabilly acts and this perhaps shouldn't surprise us. When there is Christian music in just about every genre you can think of, rockabilly should be no exception. After The Found Cats, here are The Pioneers with plenty of fast paced rockin' good music. The subject matter can be summed up in the excellent "Me And My Lord And My Hot Rod Ford" which I've already been playing on Rimmerama. Songs about God and cars! The Pioneers is the ministry band of Brian Bent and though he's recorded previous albums, this is the most accomplished. The CD bears the legend "recorded live to analog tape 1950's style" and that's just what he's done! Built around his straightforward songwriting, full on reverb guitar and heart to minister, The Pioneers connect. Aside from the music Brian Bent also runs the Hot Rod Church in California where The Pioneers are the "worship band". Radical stuff! Other highlights include the testimony song of "God Loves The Outlaw" and the opening "Rockabilly Gospel". I've got to admit that I love this best when Bent is straddling his guitar, yelping and letting his hair down. Thankfully he does that a lot!
